Bangladesh Railway Online Ticket Booking: Complete Guide (2025)

Learn how to buy Bangladesh Railway tickets online — step by step, from account creation to showing your e-ticket at the gate.

Why Book Bangladesh Railway Tickets Online?

If you have ever waited in a long queue at Kamalapur Railway Station at 5 in the morning just to get a reserved seat on the Subarna Express, you already know the answer. Online booking changed everything. Since Bangladesh Railway launched its official e-ticketing portal and partnered with platforms like Shohoz and Rail Sheba, millions of passengers now book from their phones before even leaving the house.

In this guide, we walk you through exactly how to buy a Bangladesh Railway train ticket online in 2025 — from creating an account to printing or showing your e-ticket at the gate.

Platforms You Can Use

There are currently three main ways to book online:

  • Bangladesh Railway e-Ticketing (eticket.railway.gov.bd) — the official government portal, covers all routes

  • Shohoz.com — popular third-party platform with a polished mobile app

  • Rail Sheba App — official Bangladesh Railway mobile app for Android and iOS

All three platforms pull from the same national seat inventory, so prices are identical. The difference is just the interface and any convenience fees.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Head to eticket.railway.gov.bd and click Register. You will need:

  • A valid National ID (NID) number or passport number

  • A mobile number (for OTP verification)

  • An email address

After filling in the form, you receive an OTP on your phone. Enter it, and your account is ready. The whole process takes about three minutes.

Step 2: Search for Your Train

On the homepage, select your departure station, destination station, travel date, and the number of passengers. Then click Search Trains.

The results show every train operating on that route on that date, along with available seat classes and prices. Trains marked in green have plenty of availability; orange means limited seats remain.

Step 3: Choose a Train and Seat Class

Bangladesh Railway offers several seat classes. For most intercity journeys, the common choices are:

  • Shuvon (Shubon) — basic reserved seat, most affordable

  • Shuvon Chair — cushioned reserved seat, slightly more comfortable

  • Snigdha — air-conditioned chair car, mid-range price

  • AC_S (AC Seat) — fully air-conditioned, higher fare

  • AC_B (AC Berth) — overnight sleeper berth with AC

Click on the class you want and proceed to seat selection. You can pick your specific seat number on the visual seat map — window seats go fast, so select quickly.

Step 4: Enter Passenger Details

Fill in the passenger name and NID or passport number. For journeys where a physical ticket check is strict (especially Dhaka-Chittagong intercity trains), make sure the name and ID match exactly.

Step 5: Pay

The platform accepts bKash, Nagad, Rocket (mobile banking), Visa and Mastercard debit/credit cards, and Dutch-Bangla Nexus card. After successful payment, you receive a confirmation SMS and an email with your e-ticket PDF.

Step 6: Show Your E-Ticket

You can either print the PDF or just show the QR code on your phone screen at the gate. Ticket checkers scan the QR code with a handheld device. No printing is needed for most trains as of 2025.

Important Tips

  • Tickets open for booking 10 days before the travel date at 8:00 AM. Popular trains like Subarna Express and Sonar Bangla sell out within minutes — set an alarm.

  • You can cancel a ticket online up to 4 hours before departure for a partial refund minus the service charge.

  • If the portal shows no seats but your travel date is within a few days, check again at midnight — railways sometimes release reserved quota tickets late.

  • Always double-check the train direction (UP or DN). Some train numbers run both ways.
